Welcome to Black Outdoors Colorado! We are a vibrant, community-led nonprofit exclusively for Black Women. We dedicated to fostering connection and empowerment through nature.
We host hikes, meetups, classes, and group outings designed to create safe, affirming spaces where our community can thrive!
As a nonprofit, all funds raised go directly back into supporting events, shared resources, and accessible programming.
Our mission is rooted in collective care - building meaningful experiences, lasting friendships, and a stronger sense of belonging in the outdoors.

Meet the Founder
Destiny Carter AKA "Dez Outside"
Hi! I'm Destiny! :)
I’ve been passionate about the outdoors for over a decade now. Nature has always been a place where I’ve found peace, joy, and growth, and I’m passionate about not only learning about it but also helping others do the same!
Over the years, though, I’ve noticed something that’s always weighed heavy on my heart—there just aren’t many Black people on the hiking trails, ski slopes, or other outdoor spaces. Too often, I’ve heard things like, “That’s for white people,” “We don’t do that; we’re black!” and it’s heartbreaking because the outdoors belongs to all of us!
I created Black Outdoors Colorado to inspire and empower more Black people to step into these spaces confidently and UNAPOLOGETICALLY. This group is about more than just hiking or running; it’s about education, connection, and showing up as our full, authentic selves in places where we’ve historically been underrepresented.
My hope is that this group becomes a space where we can not only learn and grow but also build relationships, create lasting memories, and truly feel seen, heard, and valued!
Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or new to the outdoors, this space is for you. Let’s change the narrative, one step, trail, or slope at a time.
